ANEZ – „RACE”. HOW WE CREATED A MUSIC VIDEO ON THE BORDER OF DREAMS AND REALITY
At Play Colors Media, we believe that music requires visuals that do more than just complement it—they must give it an entirely new dimension. Our latest production for the vocalist Anez for her track “Race” is an audiovisual journey where we combined raw, technological coldness with the warmth of a vintage aesthetic.
The video was shot at the Rzeka Film Studio, which served as the perfect canvas for our vision.
TWO SIDES OF THE SAME STORY: STYLING AND LOCATIONS
The key to telling the story of “Race” was contrast. We decided on two starkly different locations and styling concepts that reflect the internal dynamics of the track:
The Mannequin Aesthetic: Cold, almost sterile, and dominated by deep shades of navy and blue. In this setup, Anez becomes part of a futuristic installation, intriguing the viewer with her stillness and mystery.
Warm Vintage: The perfect counterweight to the coldness. We utilized a warm color palette and soft lighting that transports the viewer into a completely different, more organic emotional dimension.
SURREALISM AND TECHNIQUE: HOW WE ACHIEVED THE EFFECT
To give the music video a unique character, we opted for specialized optical filters. These filters lent the images a distinctive softness, balancing right on the border of surrealism. We wanted the viewer to feel like they were watching something more than just a standard video—a visual recording of the subconscious.
A Key Visual Element: The blending of the real and imaginary worlds was achieved through the use of analog TV sets. The images displayed on them introduced a stifling, slightly claustrophobic vibe that contrasts perfectly with the theme of dynamics and speed.

The eponymous “Race” naturally required automotive references. We packed the material with dynamic cutaways from car races. These fast, aggressive montage cuts serve as the heartbeat of the music video, boosting the track’s energy and linking the metaphorical “race” with real movement.
